We booked three rooms. In one of them, there was a used feminine pad full of blood from a previous guest in the trash. It seems like they don't clean the rooms. One of the locks on the outside windows didn't close properly and it was very cold outside. The entrance door to the room had gaps, so it vibrated all the time due to the flow of outside air coming in through the window. The receptionist in charge in the mornings was extremely rude, even hostile. The lamp above the bathroom mirror had to be turned on pulling a cable, but it didn't work, so you had to shave in the bedroom. Suddenly the lamp at the entrance to the room began to flicker permanently. I had to turn it off. The water flow in the shower is very limited. The sink with separate hot and cold taps was something from the 19th century: you either burned your hands or froze them.

Great location , I got a Seaview room. I would suggest us hearing the waves crash and take a walk on the beach, safe area, close to shops and restaurants, friendly staff, especially the front desk all shifts ! wonderful staff at the breakfast Buffett highly recommend adding that to your room, clean large room with updated shower only 20 minutes to the downtown city center reasonably price compared to Dublin prices

The room we had was fine, not a special sea view as we’d understood we were having but ok until we looked out of the window and our eyes were met with a dirty roof with lots of pipes and airconditioning boxes with just a slither of a glimpse of the sea. We had reason complain about the bill as they charged us (at checkin not checkout) more than we were quoted on the phone before left home. The receptionist was totally unwilling to budge on the price she charged us. In fact we noticed when overhearing other guests complaining there was no compromise. Would we go there again? NO. Would we return to the Clontarf Castle? You can bet we will!

Good and bad!

Hard to gauge what points to give as some things good some bad. The room was very nice, comfortable, clean and spacious. But we had to ask for extra towels, tea and coffee as there were 3 of us, sometimes we didn’t get any tea, coffee etc. Had to ask for glasses, ironing board and iron, couldn’t phone for room service as told by reception’ maybe your phone doesn’t work?’. So no room service for us. There are no drinking water facilities so had to go to the shop to buy some! The sink plug was missing, told by receptionist’ we don’t have any! The swimming pool had clumps of hair on the side so we decided not to use it. My friend’s party was great but the food was very disappointing piled high on 1 plate per table, all muddled together, no idea what was what. We ate in the restaurant twice and the food and service was very good. The carvery was good but nothing like the picture advertising it, we had no Brussels sprouts or Yorkshire pudding. Breakfast was very good.

Lovely stay for a lovely occasion

My husband and I wanted to celebrate our first anniversary somewhere nice and quite but still close to the City , so i phoned the Marine hotel just to enquiry about rates and availability as it was just before Christmas . The lovely girl on the phone very patiently told me all about the different room types and we decided to book a sea view room there and then as prices were more than reasonable for that time of the year . I passingly mentioned the occasion but didnt fuss about it . To our surprise when we checked in we found our room decorated as a “honeymoon” suite with some chocolate plate and towels folded into swans!! I couldnt believe they remembered ! Due to the Receptionist’s reccomendation we went with the Dinner bed and breakfast package which gave us the option to dine in on the night . Both food and service were exceprional and coming from a picky eater it means a lot ! The next morning we asked about some activities around the hotel and were told to see Howth, a lovely fishing village located just 10 mins from the hotel . It’s full of fresh fish and seafood restaurants but we decided to have dinner in the Schooner lounge again that night . Over all an amazing stay made that much more special due to the lovely staff and the little surprise . Will deffinitely be back.
